Why Should You Service Your Central AC For Spring?

The warm weather is just around the corner! As ready as you may be for it, is your central air conditioning system prepared? Just like getting your heating system prepped for winter gives you peace of mind during the colder months, making sure your central air conditioning system is in top shape before the warm weather hits is a way to stay ahead of the game!

Central Air Conditioning 101

A central air conditioning unit keeps your whole house cool during warmer months without the need for individual winter units. The unit itself is comprised of a two-part system, both indoor and outdoor, that work to keep cool air in and heat and humidity out, according to air conditioning manufacturer Carrier.

With this in mind, there are several factors that go into keeping your system running smoothly. In order to make sure your air conditioning unit is performing as it should, make sure to schedule a service visit prior to the onset of summer temperatures. Here is a summary of the things we look for when servicing your air conditioning units.

Clear Filters

When warm air is pulled into the evaporator and cool air is put back into the home, filters play a role in making sure the air particles are clean. In order to have clean air particles, the filters themselves need to be clean also.

Clean Coils

Both cooling and hot coils transfer heat from the indoors to outdoors, respectively. During the servicing visit, we assess the coils for any buildup or other residue that can prevent key components like the evaporator and compressor from doing their jobs effectively.

Monitor The Thermostat

The thermostat communicates temperature regulation needs and thus the component and electric connections need to be assessed for optimum functionality.

Replace Refrigerant

Refrigerant is needed to take the cool the warm air that is removed when it is processed back into the home.

Ensure Fans Are Working

If the fans in the evaporator are not working properly, cool air is not effectively dispersed into the home or removed into the outdoors.

Assess for Damage or Leaks

Due to the interconnected nature of all components in a central air conditioning system, a leak or damaged part can have an impact on the whole unit. When we do a service visit, we make sure to look for and fix any damage or leaks.
